Tradition and Innovation in Agriculture Award, OMÉK – 2021

On the occasion of the 80th National Agricultural and Food Exhibition and Fair (OMÉK), we received the Tradition and Innovation Award in Agriculture for our organic tomato plants. “It is a great pleasure to receive this new recognition, which honours our research and educational work. The programme has grown dynamically since we solicited seeds from the genebank in Tápiószele nine years ago and launched our on-farm research on the organic viability of landrace tomatoes with organic farmers. The recognition from the national gastronomy, the professional awards and the positive feedback from consumers are invaluable motivation to continue the project.” – These were the words of our Managing Director, Dr. Dóra Drexler, when she accepted the award.

Highlights of Hungary 5th place for landrace tomato plants – 2020

Highlights of Hungary is a non-profit initiative that has been rewarding and promoting the best Hungarian creative achievements since 2014. The programme’s 2020 nominees have been gathered around the slogans of Impact, Creation, Growth. Richárd Farkas, the chef of Pajta Bistro, recommended ÖMKi’s landrace tomatoes to the field. From the nominations, the top 10 places were awarded based on audience votes, with the landrace tomatoes finishing in 5th place. With the nomination and the award, which exceeded all our expectations, the fruits of our years of work, or should we say, the tomatoes, have ripened!
